Gurugram Rapid Metro Ridership Rises 11.62 Per Cent to 8,881,000

The Gurugram Rapid Metro carried 8,881,000 passengers between April and August 2026, up 11.62 per cent from 7,957,000 during the corresponding period last year. The increase was highlighted at the 66th board meeting of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation, chaired by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi on Thursday.

Revenue from operations rose to Rs. 186 mn during the five-month period from Rs. 166.6 mn in April-August 2025, marking growth of 11.64 per cent. Non-fare revenue increased 64.34 per cent year-on-year, supported by higher receipts from station rentals and advertising rights.

Rentals from spaces licensed at Rapid Metro stations grew to Rs. 35 mn from Rs. 28.2 mn. An e-auction of sites for advertising rights generated Rs. 231.4 mn, compared with Rs. 133.9 mn a year earlier, according to an official statement.

The proposed 136.30-km Delhi-Panipat-Karnal Namo Bharat corridor, estimated to cost Rs. 330.51 bn, was also reviewed. The project will have 17 stations, with provision for four additional stations, and is intended to connect Delhi with the industrial and commercial centres of Panipat and Karnal.

Another proposal is the Gurugram-Faridabad-Noida-Greater Noida Namo Bharat corridor, which would connect employment, commercial and residential centres across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The route alignment and stations in Gurugram and Faridabad have been finalised at the state level, while the detailed project report has been sent to stakeholder departments and development authorities for comments.

The Ballabhgarh-Palwal Metro extension has received approval for its final feasibility report, which has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Separately, the 35.25-km elevated corridor from Sector 56, Gurugram, to Panchgaon is in the final approval stage, with 28 stations planned and a link to the Namo Bharat regional rapid transit corridor.
