Jewar Airport work on track, terminal to be inspired by Varanasi

Officials said that the first phase of Noida International Airport (NIA) is on track for completion, and that a runway and a terminal will be operational by the end of 2024. Earthwork, levelling, and excavation work has been completed since the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts were awarded to Tata Projects last year.

Several buildings, including passenger terminal buildings, office blocks, sewage and water treatment plants, and electrical substations, will be built on the site over the next few months, according to officials.

Yamuna International Airport (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is developing the NIA at Jewar.

According to official figures, the first phase of the airport spans 1,334 hectares. "The passenger terminal floor plate is 34,000 sqm, which is equivalent to four football fields. More than 2,600 people are currently employed at the site, with a total workforce of 6,000 expected. "To date, our partners have worked over 4.2 million man hours without injury," officials stated.

They stated that over 400 heavy and small machinery have been installed at the site thus far, and that approximately 32,000 cubic metres of concrete have been poured to date, as well as 14,000 tonnes of steel, have been used in the construction.

Meanwhile, officials stated that the airport's passenger terminal incorporates many elements of the country's architecture. "The stairs to the outer court of this terminal are inspired by the famous ghats of Varanasi and Haridwar. Fresh air and sunlight will enter the terminal building via a courtyard designed in the style of a mansion. The white, translucent, undulating ceiling will give the impression of a flowing river. "The passenger terminal will feature fine-art lattice screens inspired by Indian architecture," the official stated.

They said that the airport has a 4,000-metre-long and 45-metre-wide runway. The height of the ATC (Air Traffic Control) tower is 40 metres and will provide a 360-degree view of the airport to air traffic controllers.

The long-standing prohibition had limited ONGC’s ability to fill vacancies in its technical and administrative departments, often leading to project delays and higher dependence on outsourcing. With the court’s directive, the public sector enterprise can now proceed with temporary recruitments whil..
