MMRDA Clears Rs 120 Bn Metro Contracts Spree

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved projects worth more than Rs 120 billion to accelerate Metro expansion and allied transport systems across the region. Endorsed at the authority’s 284th executive-committee meeting chaired by state chief secretary Sujata Saunik, the nineteen contracts span systems integration, rolling-stock supply, traction power, civil works, digital monitoring and multi-modal connectivity.

Metropolitan commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee said each award had been “meticulously evaluated” to ensure it advances Mumbai’s integrated transport vision. Larsen & Toubro secured the largest package—about Rs 47.88 billion—for Metro Lines 4 and 4A, covering trains, signalling, telecoms, platform screen doors, depot equipment and five-year maintenance, plus a separate Rs 1.89 billion track-work order. NCC Limited won a roughly Rs 22.70 billion deal for rolling stock, telecoms and depot machinery on Metro Line 6, while IRCON International landed a Rs 6.68 billion contract for traction and electrical-and-mechanical systems on the same corridor.
