Odisha Govt Sanctions Rs 300 Cr For Khurda Road-Balangir Rly Project

The Odisha government has sanctioned Rs 300 crore for the ongoing Khurda Road-Balangir railway project works.

The Commerce and Transport department, in a release on Tuesday, stated that it has approved the amount for laying train tracks from Daspalla in Nayagarh district to Jharatarbha in Balangir district. Out of the total 301 km track, this stretch extends from 112 km to 289 km.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Forest and Environment approved the remaining 68 km of railway line in February. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw previously stated that tenders for the start of work on this section of train track were being issued and would be finalised soon.

Work on 115 kilometres of a total 301-kilometer railway line has been completed. The project's cost has been estimated at Rs 3791.66 crore. The project received the highest sanction of Rs 1,000 crore in the rail budget for 2021-22.

When finished, the project will connect the districts of Balangir, Sonepur, Phulbani, Boudh, Nayagarh, and Khurda, as well as provide another rail link between western and coastal Odisha.
