Patna Municipal Corporation nods land transfer for metro rail project

On Thursday, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved the land transfer to the Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD) for the Patna Metro Rail project.

The proposal took place at the 51st standing committee meeting of the PMC by Mayor Sita Sahu, in the presence of municipal commissioner Himanshu Sharma and other officials.

The civic body has approved to give a no-objection certificate to give 3,866 sq metres (m) land Mithapur station, 587 sq m near Patna Junction, 29.4 sq m and 3,192.64 sq m at Mithapur bus stop, and 598 sq m near Zero Mile to the UDHD.

Earlier, UDHD sent the proposal, seeking municipal land for the metro project, track, and other construction works by the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC). The civic body seeks the same area of land from the department, Sahu said.

The civic body proposed to spend Rs 204 crore, which was allocated for air pollution, solid waste management, and water supply management by the 15th Finance Commission (FC) in FY 2020-21. Nearly Rs 20 crore will be provided to the transport department for purchasing compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and Rs 15 crore to the environment, forest and climate change department to enhance unorganised parks within the municipal zone.

According to the proposal, the parks will have all the facilities. In the programme, the water bodies will be restored as recreational space. PMC will also procure sweeping machines, smog guns, water sprinklers, and mist sprayers to improve air quality.

A proposal has been approved to set up a leachate treatment plant in Ramachak Bairiya landfill to treat seepage during rains.

Sahu said that the PMC would have secondary garbage points in Azimabad, Kankarbagh, Bankipore, Patliputra, New Capital, and Patna. The circles will have one secondary garbage point for 2 to 3 wards to keep the city clean. It would help in solid waste segregation and wet waste treatment before dumping in the landfill.
