Yellow Line Metro to Add Fifth Train by Mid-October

Bangalore Metro’s Yellow Line (RV Road–Bommasandra stretch) will add a fifth six-coach train by mid-October, reducing waiting times from 19 minutes to 15 minutes and easing peak-hour congestion for commuters.

The new train, manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems, has been dispatched and will be handed over to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) by the end of the month. Following inspections and trial runs at Hebbagodi depot, it is expected to begin commercial operations in mid-October. Currently, four trains operate on the 19.15 km corridor. Services began on August 11 with three trains running every 25 minutes, and the addition of the fourth train on September 10 reduced the interval to 19 minutes. The fifth train will further increase frequency, improving commuter convenience.

Daily ridership has risen from 50,000 at launch to 84,000, with projections exceeding 90,000 after the fifth train enters service. The RV Road–Bommasandra corridor, a major traffic-choked route, has seen morning peak-hour traffic drop by 38 per cent and evening congestion by 37 per cent since Metro operations began. Off-peak hours and weekends have also recorded significant reductions, and officials expect the fifth train to further ease congestion and reduce air pollution.
