DP World inks Rs 45 B Gujarat container terminal deal

DP World and the Deendayal Port Authority signed a concession agreement in Delhi for the development of a mega container terminal at Tuna-Tekra in Gujarat, with an estimated value of Rs 45 billion. The signing ceremony was attended by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, and Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World.

This concession, awarded to DP World in January, follows the Build Operate and Transfer model, granting a 30-year term with an option for an additional 20-year extension. The terminal is scheduled to commence operations in early 2027.

Once completed, it will feature a 1,100-meter berth capable of handling next-generation vessels carrying over 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) without pre-berthing tide-related delays. The terminal's total capacity is expected to reach 2.19 million TEUs per year.

Spanning approximately 63.4 hectares, the new terminal will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
