Odisha Handles Record 187,000 Tonnes Coking Coal at Dhamra Port

In a landmark achievement, Odisha’s Dhamra Port successfully handled its largest ever imported coking coal consignment, receiving 186,782 metric tonnes (MT) imported by Tata Steel Ltd, one of India’s leading steel producers.
The vessel, measuring 299.95 metres in length overall with a beam of 50 metres and a maximum draft of 18.40 metres, demonstrated the port’s capability to accommodate large vessels.
This milestone underscores Odisha’s growing industrial and logistical capabilities and solidifies Dhamra Port’s position as a premier deep-draft port on India’s eastern coast. The operation highlights the port’s operational efficiency, world-class infrastructure, and expanding cargo-handling capacity under Adani’s management.
The successful handling of this large coal parcel not only supports major industrial operations but also emphasises Odisha’s emerging role as a key gateway for global trade and raw material imports.
This record-breaking import reflects seamless coordination between port authorities, shipping agencies, and industry partners, establishing Dhamra Port as a vital contributor to India’s steel sector and regional economic development.
