India and Japan to Review Full Scope of Defence Cooperation

India and Japan are set to review the full spectrum of their bilateral defence relations and explore avenues to further strengthen them during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s meeting with Gen Nakatani on Monday in New Delhi.

According to the Defence Ministry, both nations would share perspectives on the prevailing regional and global security environment and deliberate on ways to enhance defence cooperation.

The long-standing friendship between India and Japan has gained significant momentum, especially after their relationship was elevated to a Special Strategic and Global Partnership in 2014. Defence and security now form crucial pillars of this partnership.

In recent years, defence ties between the two countries have grown stronger, reflecting their increasing alignment on strategic issues. This collaboration has become even more relevant given their shared vision for peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The upcoming meeting marks the second interaction between the two defence ministers in less than six months, following their first meeting in November 2024 on the sidelines of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus held in Lao PDR.
