EKI to Provide Consultancy for Varanasi Smart City Bio-Conversion Project

EKI Energy Services has secured consultancy work for the Varanasi Smart City Bio-Conversion Project, located in Shahanshahpur, Varanasi district. The initiative aims to reduce methane emissions through anaerobic digestion technology, converting 70 tonnes per day of animal waste and organic feedstock into clean energy and organic fertilisers. Backed by the Government of India’s SATAT scheme and in collaboration with Adani Group and local authorities, the project is set to cut 33,187 tonne of CO₂-equivalent emissions over seven years. With a 25-year lifespan, it represents a model for sustainable, waste-to-energy solutions in urban development.

UP to Develop Digitally-Managed Smart City Near Noida Airport
Uttar Pradesh will develop a 750-acre smart city near the Noida International Airport, integrating advanced digital infrastructure for efficient civic management. The township will feature a Rs 400 million command and control centre to oversee utilities like water, power, waste, and safety. Equipped with 140 CCTV cameras, ANPR tech, and environmental sensors, the city ensures robust monitoring. Linked to Greater Noida’s smart grid, it will offer high-speed fibre connectivity and a digital platform for accessing public utilities. Designed to house 30,000 residents and generate 50,000 jobs, it sets a new benchmark in sustainable, tech-driven urban development.

Smart Cities Mission Sees 90 per cent Project Completion
As the Smart Cities Mission, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 June 2015, nears its 10-year milestone, a report by the State Bank of India reveals that over 90 per cent of projects have been completed. Out of 8,000+ multi-sectoral projects worth Rs 1.64 trillion across 100 cities, 7,504 totalling Rs 1.50 trillion are finished. Nearly half the expenditure focused on urban mobility and water or sanitation infrastructure. States like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra led in implementation. Funded through central, state and innovative sources, the Mission reflects a major shift in India’s urban landscape, prioritising smart, sustainable development and quality of life.

Agartala Smart City Mission Nears Completion 
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that 95 per cent of the Agartala Smart City Mission has been completed, with full completion expected by May 2025. Of the 65 planned projects, 62—worth Rs 3.75 billion—are already finished. The remaining three include airport road four-laning, MBB College Lake revitalisation, and a children’s park. The total project cost is Rs 5.41 billion, funded in a 90:10 ratio between the Centre and State. The scheme is scheduled to conclude on 30 June 2025, with no announced extension. CM Saha shared the update during the Budget Session, responding to MLA Gopal Chandra Roy.
