IIM-Indore signs MoU with Kanpur to offer smart solutions

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore and Kanpur civic bodies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop Kanpur city under the smart city initiative.

Kanpur Smart City (KSCL), Kanpur Development Authority (KDA), Kanpur Police Commissionerate, and IIM-Indore signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU).

According to the MoU (valid for three years), the stakeholders would concentrate on executing the Indore model of cleanliness to develop Kanpur as a global industrial hub and enhance the quality of life for the people.

The stakeholders would also focus on reorganising street vendors from unapproved areas, decongesting public places, and enhancing the traffic movement.

During the signing of the MoU, Raj Shekhar (Kanpur Division Municipal Commissioner), Himanshu Rai (Director Prof. IIM-Indore), and Asim Arun (Police Commissioner) were present.

Himanshu Rai told the media that the aim is to make Kanpur a worldwide industrial hub. Thus, it is necessary to enhance the quality of life of residents and the city's cleanliness.

Rai would direct a panel of IIM-Indore experts, who would draft a plan for helping street vendors to have a more organised way in place.

Regarding road traffic management, the IIM Director informed that they would choose the Indore model and take the assistance of Google Satellite images for real-time observation.

He said that engineering solutions such as deconstruction and construction could also take place.
