Karnataka govt to deliver tap water connections to 25 lakh houses

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the Karnataka government has decided to install tap water connections to 25 lakh households in the rural areas of the state.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has directed the officials to meet the deadline while conducting a review of the project.

According to Yediyurappa, rural Karnataka has 91.91 lakh households, with 28 lakh having access to running water.

By 2022, the government aims to extend the service to 25.17 lakh more houses.

Currently, 435 multi-village drinking projects have been completed, with another 69 in the works.

Another 30 projects have been approved by the state government and 161 projects have been proposed for approval.

Yediyurappa has directed that the scheme be implemented first in areas where river water is available.

The scheme is the Prime Minister's flagship programme and it must be implemented within the stipulated time frame, says the CM.

The CM will hold a video conference with all Zilla panchayat chief executives.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj K S Eshwarappa, additional chief secretary (ACS) to CM Dr EV Ramanareddy, additional chief secretary and Development Commissioner Vanditha Sharma, ACS (Finance) ISN Prasad, RDPR principal secretary LK Ateeq, and others.
