Power Ministry proposes tariff-fixing process

The Union Ministry of Power has proposed changes in the Electricity Act to reform the tariff determination mechanism. The government's initiative will provide a much-needed relief to companies that have been hit by power crises. However, the Forum of Regulators (FoR), a representative body of regulatory commissions, has strongly objected to the proposal - to amend the Section 62 and 63 of the Act - citing that the Indian power market is still evolving and such amendments are not required at this point in time.
