Excavations begin at Chatti-Bariatu for coal production

Chatti-Bariatu Coal Mining Project of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited, which had already commenced its mining operations, has achieved another milestone by touching the coal seam after excavation to a depth of around 7 m.

This excavation will pave the way to start coal production on 22 July. Chatti-Bariatu shall soon join Pakri Barwadih, Dulanga and Talaipalli in expanding its coal-producing mines of NTPC.

Partha Mazumder, Regional Executive Director of Coal Mining, was present during the occasion, along with General Manager & Head of Chatti-Bariatu, Ajay Kumar, General Manager of TS-CMHQ, T K Konar, General Manager of Kerandari, Neeraj Jalota and other senior officials of NTPC.

Mazumder reviewed the progress of ongoing activities at the site and visited the Coal Evacuation corridor to confirm the preparation for coal transportation from the coal mine.

The coal mining project shall produce 7 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of coal and supply coal to Barh STPP (Stage-II) of NTPC.

Coal production from the Chatti-Bariatu Coal Mining Project will further add to the coal production capacity from NTPC’s coal mines, which produced 14 million tonnes (mt) of coal in FY21-22, compared to 11 mt during the last FY and registered a 27% year-on-year (YoY) growth.
