MoS for Coal Visits Dhanbad to Review Belgaria Rehabilitation

Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey visited Dhanbad during a three day visit to Jharkhand and inspected Belgaria Township where rehabilitation of fire affected families from the Jharia coalfield region is being undertaken under the Jharia Master Plan. He reviewed progress of rehabilitation works and assessed status of infrastructure and basic amenities being provided to resettled families. The minister began the inspection in Phase five and directed agencies to maintain transparency and quality.

Present at the inspection were Ragini Singh, Jharia member of the legislative assembly, Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan, and Manoj Kumar Agarwal, chairman and managing director of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), along with functional directors of BCCL and senior officials from the Ministry of Coal and district administration. The minister noted that the rehabilitation initiative represents a comprehensive effort to enhance living standards of displaced households and urged eligible beneficiaries to participate actively in the process. Officials provided detailed updates on housing, utilities and community amenities.

The minister laid the foundation stone for a livelihood and employment generation project to be implemented by Bharat Coking Coal Limited and distributed e rickshaws to five beneficiaries under the companys corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. He interacted with women entrepreneurs associated with CSR supported livelihood programmes and described the initiatives as steps to strengthen local livelihoods and promote inclusive growth. Directions were issued to cover all eligible families under the rehabilitation framework and to ensure timely execution of works.

Later, he chaired a high level review meeting at Koyla Bhawan, BCCL headquarters, attended by senior police, central industrial security force and district officials. A detailed review of projects under the Jharia Master Plan was undertaken, covering operational performance, coal quality improvement initiatives, rehabilitation progress, safety measures and environmental compliance. The minister provided guidance for strengthening performance and emphasised coordinated action between Bharat Coking Coal Limited and the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA). The visit is expected to further strengthen efforts towards rehabilitation, sustainable development and safe mining operations in the Jharia coalfield region.
