AmpereHour, IndiGrid Commission Gujarat BESS Project

AmpereHour Energy and IndiGrid have commissioned a 180 MW/360 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation substation in Gujarat. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) is the off-taker for the project, which is among India’s largest standalone utility-scale battery storage installations and one of Asia’s major BESS capacities.

The project strengthens Gujarat’s renewable energy ecosystem, where around 870 MW of battery storage capacity projects have been launched. The facility will store excess renewable energy during off-peak hours and discharge it during high-demand periods, helping reduce curtailment and improve grid resilience.

AmpereHour scaled its learnings from its 40 MWh Delhi project to deliver the 360 MWh system. Its teams carried out simulation studies across the electrical chain, from the 220 kV grid connection to DC systems, to ensure round-trip efficiency and usable energy. The project used AmpereHour’s ELINA EMS and AH Suite platform for execution across multiple contractors.

IndiGrid said the project sets a new benchmark for utility-scale storage infrastructure in India and supports the country’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
