Gautam Solar to Invest Rs 10 bn in New Solar Cell Manufacturing Facility

Gautam Solar announced its entry into solar cell manufacturing with plans to invest Rs 10 billion in establishing a 2 GW facility. This new facility is expected to help Gautam Solar address the growing demand for DCR (domestic content requirement) panels, which are essential for government-subsidised projects that necessitate locally-produced components, according to a statement.

The company's goal is to improve its market position by producing high-quality, DCR-compliant solar cells, aiming to become a formidable competitor to the Chinese manufacturers currently dominating the Indian solar cell supply chain.

The CEO, Gautam Mohanka, mentioned that the facility would be in line with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's (MNRE) guidelines, which encourage the domestic manufacturing of solar cells.
