Gensol wins 8 MW solar project EPC contract

The engineering and consulting firm Gensol Engineering has been granted the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for an 8 MW ground-mounted solar power project in Panchet town of Dhanbad district in Jharkhand by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).

It was announced that the company will also supervise the project's operation and maintenance for a period of five years.

Gensol secured the project by submitting a bid of Rs 476 million during the e-reverse auction.

It is now required for the company to provide a performance security amounting to 5%-10% of the contract value.

Apart from the performance security, DVC will withhold retention money equal to 5% of each running bill until final acceptance in order to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Gensol has a deadline of nine months from the receipt of the letter of award to commission the project.

In February 2023, DVC initiated the tender for the project, stipulating the use of monocrystalline solar photovoltaic technology with a fixed tilt configuration.

Gensol will be accountable for the provision of solar modules, mounting structures, string combiner boxes, power conditioning units, inverters, and all the necessary equipment required to construct a 33 kV bay at the existing 132/33 kV Panchet Hydel Station switchyard.

The company must also ensure that vendors offer a guarantee for the materials and equipment for a duration of 18 months from the delivery date or 12 months from the commissioning date, whichever comes earlier.

It was specified that the modules used in the project must have a linear degradation rate of power output, except for the first year, and guarantee a minimum of 80% of the initial rated power output at the end of 25 years from the date of successful commercial operation.
