Indore Commissions 60 MW Jalud Solar Plant

Indore has commissioned a 60 megawatt (MW) solar power plant at Jalud, developed by Rays Power Infra Limited and spread over 220 acres. The project was executed under the CPSU Scheme Phase II, Tranche II of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Solar Energy Corporation of India. The foundation stone was laid by Narendra Modi on 24 December 2023 and the plant was commissioned on 3 March 2026.

The project was built on a total investment of Rs 2.71 billion (bn) and was funded through green bond proceeds alongside viability gap funding of Rs 420 million (mn) from the Government of India. The facility uses domestically manufactured DCR category solar PV modules, aligning the development with the Make in India initiative. The company has entered a 10-year operation and maintenance agreement to manage plant performance.

The plant is expected to generate more than eight mn units of electricity per month and to deliver substantial savings for the Indore Municipal Corporation, with monthly electricity bill reductions estimated between Rs 30 mn and Rs 42 mn. The authority anticipates cost recovery within approximately nine years, driven by reduced procurement from conventional sources and lower operational expense. The capacity addition strengthens the city's clean energy portfolio.

From an environmental perspective the scheme is anticipated to yield about 86,000 carbon credits annually and to result in emissions reductions comparable to the impact of nearly four mn trees. The generation will primarily support energy intensive services, including water supply and pumping systems, thereby improving service efficiency and resilience. The implementation involved co-ordination with the Government of Madhya Pradesh and key state utilities.
