JBVNL Strengthens Ranchi Power Network with Three New Circuits

Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) has commissioned three new 33 kilovolt (kV) power circuits in Ranchi to strengthen the city distribution network and improve supply reliability. The utility said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise the state electricity distribution infrastructure and to meet rising consumption. The development is presented as a step towards building a more resilient and efficient system capable of addressing current and near term needs.

The addition of the three 33 kilovolt (kV) circuits will enable more even distribution of electricity across multiple load centres, reducing congestion on existing feeders and smoothing power flow. By creating alternative power routes within the network, engineers will gain greater operational flexibility to maintain supply during maintenance works, equipment failures or localised faults. This configuration is intended to minimise service interruptions and to improve overall grid performance for residential, commercial and industrial users.

One principal objective is to address recurring outages linked to increasing demand and overloading of older infrastructure as the city expands. The commissioned circuits are expected to improve load management during both normal and peak conditions and to enhance voltage regulation across the network. Improved load balancing and optimised power flow should also reduce technical losses and support more efficient distribution operations.

Strengthened distribution capacity will benefit economic activity by reducing production interruptions and by ensuring that hospitals, educational institutions and government services receive dependable power.
