Juniper Commissions 35 MW Wind Capacity in Gujarat Hybrid Project

Juniper Green Energy has commissioned 35 MW of wind power capacity as part of its 150 MW wind-solar hybrid power project in Gujarat. The commissioning was confirmed by officials from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency and Paschim Gujarat Vij Company, according to a regulatory filing by the company.

The formal commissioning certificate is expected to be issued shortly. The latest addition takes Juniper Green's capacity under the project to 175 MWp, against a total planned capacity of 190 MWp. The filing did not explain the difference between the project capacity described in the title and the total capacity reported for the development.

As of the filing date, Juniper Green Energy and its subsidiaries had aggregate operational capacity of about 2,639 MWp, along with approximately 500 MWh of battery energy storage system capacity. The company has been expanding its renewable energy portfolio through projects awarded by state utilities and central power organisations.

In January 2024, Juniper Green Energy and KPI Green Energy emerged as winning bidders to develop 200 MW under a 500 MW grid-connected wind-solar hybrid project in Gujarat. The tender was awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam, which also made another 500 MW allocation through a greenshoe option.

Juniper secured a 150 MW contract at Rs. 3.04 per kWh, while KPI Green Energy won a 50 MW project at Rs. 2.99 per kWh. In July 2024, Juniper signed two Power Purchase Agreements with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam and NTPC for hybrid projects totalling 480 MW. The agreements covered a 190 MW Gujarat project, comprising 140 MW of solar and 50 MW of wind, and a 290 MW project spread across Gujarat and Rajasthan, comprising 210 MW of solar and 80 MW of wind.
