SCCL sets power generation targets to 3,350 MW

In order to reach a total power generation capacity of 3,350 MW, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has launched a grand strategy to build additional 1,050 MW capacity facilities in addition to the current thermal and solar power plants. On April 5, 2023, at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad, SCCL CMD N Sridhar presided over a review meeting and spoke with the directors about various growth initiatives.

In order for the company to have a solid financial foundation, Sridhar advised that the thermal solar power plants it operates boost their capacity as much as possible and pursue mass production. According to him, the Singareni Board also approved the construction of a second 800 MW supercritical thermal power plant on the grounds of the 1,200 MW thermal power plant located at Jaipur in the Manchiryala district and built on approximately 2,000 acres.

He disclosed that the tendering procedure for building this plant is nearly finished. Next month, work on the construction will start. The capacity of Singareni's thermal power plant will increase to 2,000 megawatts if this project is finished. Sridhar also gave the authority to build a second 800 MW supercritical power plant nearby. The officials were instructed to submit a DPR proposal for this plant because all necessary infrastructure, including water and a railway, is already established there. He continued by saying that this facility needs 120 acres, and there are all the necessary resources to build another 800 MW plant. The entire thermal power generation capacity of Singareni will increase to 2,800 MW with the acceptance of this project, he noted.

He claimed that the 1,200 MW thermal power plant, which is now run by Singareni, is advancing the business by bringing in about Rs 500 crore a year. The business, therefore, thinks Singareni will make more money from the recently built 1,600 MW plant. The corporation is trying to construct up to 300 MW of solar plants, and it has already installed 224 MW of plants that create power. The first phase of construction for the 300 MW plant as well as the additional 76 MW plants will be finished in the following two months.

These plants were all installed in the unoccupied plots in Singareni. The 700 million electricity units the Singareni firm uses annually will be significantly cheaper thanks to these plants. Sridhar gave the solar officials a few months to present a thorough report on constructing these 250-megawatt plants in nearby unoccupied areas like Bhupalapalli, Mandamarri, and Manuguru.

To build these solar facilities, the Singareni firm has already sent a proposal to the State Energy Department. Therefore, according to the officials, the Singareni company will soon generate an additional 250 MW of solar energy. With this, the Singareni company's solar power generation capacity would increase to 550 MW. In this way, Singareni Collieries is planning to generate 2,800 megawatts of thermal electricity, 550 megawatts of solar electricity and a total of 3,350 megawatts of electricity. Directors and GMs of the company attended the meeting.
