THDC to Develop 6,790 MW Pumped Hydropower Storage for Rs 336 Bn

THDC India announced that it has entered into an agreement with the Maharashtra government to develop six pumped hydro power storage projects (PSPs) with a combined capacity of 6,790 MW. The total investment for these projects is expected to exceed Rs 33,600 crore. This pact is intended to support the development process by facilitating surveys, investigations, and the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), ensuring that the projects are completed in a timely manner while complying with relevant rules and policies from both central and state governments.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the Department of Water Resources, Government of Maharashtra. It outlines the development of six PSPs, including Malshej Ghat Pumped Storage Project (700 MW), Aruna Pumped Storage Project (1,950 MW), Kharari Pumped Storage Project (1,250 MW), Humbarli Birmani Pumped Storage Project (1,000 MW), Aruna Kolamb Pumped Storage Project (1,200 MW), and Morawadi Majarewadi Pumped Storage Project (690 MW).

Under the agreement, the Maharashtra government will assist in securing the necessary water allocation for these projects, including both initial filling and annual water requirements, upon receiving formal applications from THDC India. In return, THDC India is committed to diligently preparing and submitting Detailed Project Reports for each initiative, ensuring adherence to the established guidelines and timely project execution.
