Vikram Solar Commissions New 0.6 Mn Square Feet Plant in Tamil Nadu

Vikram Solar has commissioned a new manufacturing plant in Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, covering 0.6 million (mn) square feet and creating employment for over 1,500 skilled workers. The facility incorporates advanced automation and digital manufacturing systems to improve efficiency and product quality. The company said the investment supports expansion of India’s domestic clean energy manufacturing base.

The unit has complete traceability of every module, automated inspection and smart systems that grade, sort and package output. The first products are Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R modules rated between 615 and 640 Wp with module efficiencies of up to 23.69 per cent. Automation is aimed at improving reliability and yield in high-volume production.

The company said the site will be enlarged in coming years to include module, cell, water and ingot manufacturing units to scale production. It intends to establish nine GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by the end of FY27 and to add a further three GW by FY28. By FY29–30 it plans to expand water and ingot manufacturing capacity by 12 GW.

Management described the investment as a step to build an integrated manufacturing platform aligned with India’s domestic content framework and to strengthen supply chain resilience. The chairman noted the firm surpassed 10 GW in cumulative global module deployments earlier this year and is expanding capacity against demonstrated demand. The company said the automated plant meets current module manufacturing standards.

Following the announcement the company’s stock fell more than two per cent on the NSE and was trading near its 52-week low. Over the past one month the share price has declined by over 11 per cent and it has fallen by 23 per cent in the past six months. Vikram Solar is an Indian solar module manufacturer offering engineering, procurement and construction services and operations and maintenance, and is headquartered in Kolkata.
