Sujan Industries has been integral to India’s industrial growth, delivering critical components and engineered systems for the railways, defence, aerospace, automotive and energy sectors.HUSE (Help Us Save Earth) builds on this foundation of engineering excellence, focusing on sustainability-driven innovation that makes industries cleaner, smarter and more connected. Brijesh Sujan, CEO, Sujan Industries & HUSE Energy, and Narendra Sujan, Co-Founder, HUSE Energy, tell us more and offer a compelling perspective on how the group is driving intelligent, future-ready engineering to transform India’s railway and industrial ecosystems. Please elaborate on the key technologies powering the Smart Wagon and Smart Coach platforms and how they enhance predictive maintenance. At Sujan Industries, through our inhouse technology hub Huse Live™, we’ve developed the Smart Wagon and Smart Coach platforms using a layered architecture that integrates sensors, edge processing, wireless telemetry and cloud analytics. These systems employ advanced in-train sensor networks –vibration, strain, temperature, bearing-oil debris and wheel or axle load sensors – that feed data into onboard gateways. For example, our Smart Coach solution combines wireless telemetry devices such as SmartBug®, Smart Oil Plug® and our indigenous MOAS™ suite, transmitting real-time operational data to our preventive maintenance cloud platform. This enables Indian Railways to monitor multiple trainsets simultaneously. At the edge level, AI-powered computing modules perform real-time anomaly detection using machine-learning models trained on Indian datasets. Our PANDAS-V® system, designed for pantograph and overhead-line monitoring, integrates IIoT sensors and onboard AI/ML algorithms to detect faults instantly, reducing the need for human intervention. In field trials with RDSO experts, the system has already helped prevent major de-wirement incidents. These innovations ensure higher uptime, targeted maintenance, and reduced manpower requirements, allowing railway teams to focus on strategic operations. All developments are undertaken within Huse Live Labs – Sujan Industries’ inhouse centre for AI, sensor design and indigenous platform engineering. Please tell us more about HUSE and how it fits into Sujan Industries’ innovation story.HUSE operates across three verticals:HUSE Energy: Reimagining floating solar solutions, we have achieved multi-megawatt installations at ground-mounted pricing while generating 5 per cent more energy than conventional systems. Our next-generation design aims to raise this to 10 per cent above global benchmarks.HUSE Mobility: Advancing electrified transport through EV platforms, battery systems and intelligent charging infrastructure to accelerate sustainable mobility.HUSE Live: Powering our Smart Wagon, Smart Coach and Smart Yard systems, connecting industrial and railway ecosystems through IoT and analytics.Through HUSE, we translate Sujan Industries’ decades of mechanical and materials expertise into intelligent, sustainable solutions for the future. How do partnerships contribute to the overall effectiveness of your solutions? We combine our expertise with that of our partners to create an integrated, multimodal monitoring ecosystem. With over four decades of experience, we understand market challenges and design solutions accordingly. Our RailVision product, for instance, employs multi-sensor fusion and AI-driven vision systems for railway applications. Its ShuntingYard and MainLine variants use deep learning to detect and classify objects along tracks and in yards, even under adverse weather or lighting, sending real-time alerts to command centres. This initiative supports the Ministry of Railways’ emphasis on enhanced safety and passenger comfort. We are currently evaluating the integration of such object detection systems across India’s locomotive fleet. Our philosophy – Make in India, for the World – underpins these efforts, reflecting a long-term commitment to cost-effective, high-performance engineering. How does Sujan Industries ensure accuracy and reliability in data and manage anomalies? While anyone could replicate our hardware, the true intelligence lies within our software. Our edge-to-cloud framework employs redundant data channels, automated validation and self-learning anomaly detection, ensuring accuracy and reliability. The hardware merely captures data – our algorithms interpret, analyse and act upon it in real time, transforming raw information into actionable insights. How scalable are your platforms and can they adapt to varying regional infrastructure? Our platforms are designed for the complexity of Indian Railways, making them inherently adaptable to other global networks. We are proving their capability in India before expanding internationally through collaborative models. We prioritise transparent, long-term partnerships to co-develop technologies tailored to local infrastructure and compliance needs. The foundation is built in India but the applications are global. How are sustainability principles integrated into your railway solutions? Our aim goes beyond ‘green design’ – we aspire to make Indian Railways the leanest and most efficient freight system worldwide. Huse Live Labs deploys advanced digital tools to cut energy waste, optimise routing and extend asset life. Rail freight is already the most sustainable mode of transport. By enhancing its intelligence and efficiency, we contribute tangibly to India’s climate and energy goals through measurable engineering outcomes, not rhetoric. What emerging technologies are Sujan Industries exploring to further improve railway safety and efficiency? We continue to develop next-generation systems spanning AI-driven predictive maintenance, computer vision, energy-optimised hardware and advanced composites. As a self-funded, innovation-led enterprise, our culture thrives on experimentation and continuous improvement. For us, innovation isn’t a catchphrase – it is a daily practice rooted in problem-solving and purposeful engineering.Quotes: “While anyone could replicate our hardware, the true intelligence lies within our software.” “For us, innovation isn’t a catchphrase – it’s a daily practice rooted in problem-solving and purposeful engineering.”

Open and Shut Case

Fenestrations aren’t just openings in a building, nor are they part of the background. With the right materiality and detailing, they become filters that set the tone, a powerful design element that influences light, air, sound, mood, movement and privacy, while meaningfully connecting inner and outer spaces.Essentially, doors and windows are transitions and thinking of them so underscores their role in building design. “Good architecture pays attention to transitions,” says Meinathan N, Founder and Principal Architect, Architecture+Swath, and rightfully so. “The right height, the..

Rethinking Tall Buildings!

The 88-storey Palais Royale in Mumbai. The 64-storey One Avighna Park in Mumbai. The 41-storey Wave One, Noida. All members of India’s small but growing number of skyscrapers, mostly in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Gurugram.Rapid urbanisation in the light of land constraints is making the question of ‘how tall’ increasingly crucial. “The ‘height of affordability’ is a critical consideration,” says Anuja Sawant, Principal, SSA, and Director, Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat India Chapter. There is a strong case for building taller. But “the optimal height of a building i..
