Manish Mehan, CEO & MD, TK Elevator IndiaHow do elevators contribute to the evolution and growth of tall buildings in India? The rise of tall buildings in India is being closely driven by advancements in the elevator sector, which enable vertical urban growth amid land constraints and increasing population density. Modern high-speed, high-capacity elevators ensure smooth and efficient movement in high-rises, while intelligent traffic management systems like destination selection control help reduce waiting times and improve passenger flow. Space-saving innovations such as machine-room-less elevators, TWIN systems, double-deck solutions, and compact gearless machines help developers maximize usable floor area and pursue more ambitious designs. The industry also supports sustainability through energy-efficient components, regenerative drives, and IoT-enabled systems that enable predictive maintenance and minimize downtime. Advanced safety features such as seismic sensors, fire-rated components, and emergency rescue systems enhance reliability and resilience. Through these technologies that combine speed, safety, efficiency, and space optimization, the elevator industry is playing a pivotal role in shaping India’s modern high-rise landscape. What technologies or solutions from your company enhance the energy efficiency, sustainability, or environmental performance of tall buildings?TK Elevator is advancing sustainable urban mobility with technologies that improve the energy efficiency and environmental performance of tall buildings. The company’s solutions reduce energy use, optimize space, and lower the carbon footprint of vertical transportation systems. The next-generation EOX platform features eco-mode operations, LED lighting, lightweight materials, and real-time energy monitoring to support global green-building standards. The company’s space-saving TWIN elevator system, featuring two independently operating cars in one shaft, optimizes core space and reduces material usage while delivering superior transport capacity—making it an ideal choice for high-rise, high-density environments. The groundbreaking MULTI system, the world’s first rope-less and multi-directional elevator, enables vertical and horizontal movement within a single shaft, significantly reducing system footprint and boosting efficiency. Digital platforms like the IoT-powered MAX predictive maintenance system and AGILE destination control further optimize traffic flow, reduce idle time, and extend equipment life. Modernization programs help existing buildings upgrade to energy-efficient drives and controls for long-term sustainability. With its strong commitment to innovation and sustainability, TK Elevator remains a trusted partner for building greener, more efficient, and future-ready skyscrapers. What key challenges does your industry face in catering to tall building projects in India, and how do you foresee addressing them? The elevator industry faces several challenges in India’s tall building projects, beginning with infrastructure limitations such as inconsistent power quality, limited grid capacity, and construction-phase constraints that affect installation and performance. Developers’ need to maximize usable floor area also places pressure on manufacturers to design more space-efficient systems without reducing capacity. India’s diverse climate—heat, humidity, corrosion, and dust—further impacts equipment reliability, especially in coastal regions. Evolving safety regulations and a shortage of skilled technicians add to the complexity. To overcome these challenges, the industry is increasingly embracing digitalisation, predictive maintenance, and remote diagnostics to ensure high system uptime. Custom engineering solutions such as corrosion-resistant materials, regenerative drives designed to operate under unstable power conditions, and compact high-capacity systems are improving performance in diverse local environments. Early collaboration among OEMs, developers, and consultants is helping streamline shaft planning and optimize traffic flow. Additionally, increased investment in training, certification, and specialised high-rise service teams is strengthening the technical expertise required for modern urban infrastructure.Ultimately, continued technological innovation, stronger regulatory frameworks, and focused skill development will enable the elevator industry to effectively support India’s rapidly expanding skyline.
