The survey works for the longest tunnel road in Kerala, connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, commenced recently. The Rs.6.58 bn project, which will be financed through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), will see the creation of a tunnel road with a length of around 7 km, which will provide an alternative to the Thamarassery Ghat Road. It has already received administrative and technical sanctions from the state government, and the project's inauguration is planned for October 5. The tunnel starts at Swargamkunnu in Kozhikode and would end at Kalladi in Wayanad. Once completed, it is expected to reduce the road distance from Kochi to Bengaluru by around 30 km. Further, the tunnel road will be third-longest tunnel road in the country.
