Tata Projects

“A focused senior management team and a group of engaged employees are indispensable for any company to grow. The management must have a clear vision and enlist the support of employees by communicating its essence. The employees play an important role in authoring the strategy that makes the vision come true. And as a leader, one should make sure ideas flow freely across the organisation.”-Arun Kumar Misra, Executive Director & CEO

The Company

Tata Projects Ltd (TPL) was established in 1979 as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company in the engineering sector of the Tata Group. It is one of the earliest and very few Indian EPC companies to have acquired the triple certifications of ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001. TPL operates through seven strategic business units: power generation; transmission and distribution; water and wastewater; railways; oil, gas and hydrocarbon; metals and minerals; and quality services. The company has set up its own tower manufacturing unit near Nagpur. And as part of its inorganic growth strategies, it has acquired a majority stake in Artson Engineering Ltd (for OGH projects) and formed JV companies – Al Tawleed for projects in Saudi Arabia; TEIL Projects Ltd, with EIL, a Central PSU; and TPL-TQA Ltd, for third-party inspection services in South Africa – in the past three years.

IPL is currently executing more than 64 projects at 56 locations in India and abroad and is growing at a CAGR of more than 55 per cent for the past five years. Today, TPL is building India’s largest balance of plant (BOP) contract in the power sector for the Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Ltd for its 2×800 MW super-critical, coal-fired Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Plant in Krishnapatnam. It is also erecting the country’s largest blast furnace (4,060 cu m) at SAIL, Rourkela. Ranked among India’s Top 10 Fastest Growing Construction Companies in 2008 (ninth) and 2009 (fifth), TPL has featured among the Top 10 Most Admired Construction Companies every year since 2007. What’s more, as a part of its corporate sustainability activities, TPL trains underprivileged youth, supports education of economically backward students, provides safe drinking water through RO plants manufactured by the company and organises health camps for communities in and around its project sites. Accolades received by the company include the Excellence in Product Innovation Award from the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry for 2008-09 and the Tata Business Excellence Model Serious Adoption Award from the chairman of the Tata Group.
