APCO Infra bags Rs 23.78-billion Z-morh tunnel in J&K

Photo: For representational purposeGurugram-based construction firm APCO Infratech has reportedly bagged the contract for construction of the 6.5-km-long Z-morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. The project is expected to provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Kargil.The Rs 23.78-billion project was initially awarded to IL&FS and has reportedly been stalled since July 2018. In June this year, state-run National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) had terminated IL&FS’ contract and invited fresh bids for the Z-morh tunnel project, as a step to restart work on this under-construction project. As reported, the Z-morh tunnel is being constructed on the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. ILFS, the earlier contractor, has reportedly completed about 30 per cent of the construction work.
