AP Transport Department Signs MoA with Maruti Suzuki for Test Track Automation

The Andhra Pradesh Transport Department has signed a memorandum of agreement with Maruti Suzuki to automate driving test tracks across the state. The collaboration seeks to introduce automated systems to modernise testing procedures and enhance the integrity of licence issuance. The agreement was presented as a strategic move to streamline operations and reduce human error. The agreement is part of broader efforts to modernise transport services.

The initial phase will focus on upgrading existing test tracks and deploying standardised equipment and software before gradual roll out to additional centres. Officials said the partnership will follow a phased implementation that balances technical readiness with administrative processes. The plan is intended to ensure minimal disruption to applicants while enabling consistent evaluation standards. Stakeholder consultation will guide operational protocols.

The automation initiative will combine digital management platforms with sensor based and camera based validation systems to monitor candidate performance and test track conditions. Data from the systems will be used for performance analysis and to maintain auditable records of each test attempt. Integration with licensing databases is expected to speed up result processing and reduce paperwork. Security and data privacy measures will be incorporated.

Authorities anticipate improvements in transparency and accountability as automated assessment replaces several manual steps in the current process. Road safety outcomes are expected to benefit from more consistent testing and clearer records of driver competency. The move is also expected to reduce opportunities for malpractice and to bolster public confidence in the licensing system. Evaluation metrics will be published to allow independent review of outcomes.

Training programmes for test centre staff and technical teams will accompany equipment installation and system commissioning to ensure smooth operation. The partners will conduct pilot evaluations and adjust workflows before wider deployment. Officials indicated that ongoing monitoring and maintenance regimes will be established to sustain system performance.
