Cabinet Approves Infrastructure Projects And Farm Benefits

The Union Cabinet approved a package of infrastructure projects and farm support measures totalling Rs 122.36 billion (Rs 122.36 bn). The approvals cover investments intended to strengthen rural infrastructure, improve market access for produce and provide direct benefits to farming communities. The decision followed appraisal of project proposals and budgetary allocations by the relevant departments. Ministers emphasised the need for coordinated implementation across central and state agencies.

Funding will be channelled through established programmes and executing agencies with priority given to projects that can be delivered within the near term and yield tangible benefits for producers. The measures are designed to address bottlenecks in logistics and storage, to enhance value chains and to reduce post?harvest losses which erode farm incomes. Authorities also indicated that support components will be targeted to improve resilience and productivity in agriculture and allied activities.

Officials set out that the investment is expected to generate significant employment during construction and through expanded farm services, and to stimulate local economies where projects are executed. Oversight arrangements will include milestone?based disbursements, periodic reviews and performance monitoring to ensure fiscal discipline and timely completion. The government will seek to align disbursements with seasonal cycles and project milestones to maximise effectiveness.

Analysts noted that the infusion of Rs 122.36 bn could provide a modest boost to growth by raising rural demand and improving supply capabilities, while fiscal managers will balance developmental aims with macroeconomic prudence. The Cabinet decision is part of ongoing efforts to channel public investment into areas that support inclusive growth and to strengthen the institutional framework for delivery. Implementation outcomes will determine the extent of impact on farm incomes and rural livelihoods.
