Centre Approves Amingaon-Barpeta Highway Alignment in Assam

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the proposal to widen the Amingaon-Barpeta Bypass, which will now feature two lanes over a 75-km stretch. The alignment for this bypass, part of National Highway 427, passes through Amingaon, Dadara, Singimari, Hajo, Mukalmua, Rampur, Barpeta, and Howly.

The state government has prioritized road and bridge connectivity, with ongoing works under the World Bank-funded Assam Resilient Rural Bridge Programme. This initiative involves the construction, repair, and replacement of 1,085 bridges, including the transition of timber and steel bridges to RCC bridges. The World Bank has allocated Rs 43.59 billion for the programme.

Additionally, significant road construction projects are underway in Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Barak Valley, and the BTC region, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with a contribution of Rs 39.94 billion.
