Centre Grants Rs 7.59 Billion to Boost Uttarakhand

The Central Government has approved additional financial assistance of Rs 7.59 billion for Uttarakhand to strengthen modern infrastructure and support economic development. The package includes Rs 7.34 billion for capital investment and Rs 250 million for urban land reforms, aimed at accelerating development projects and promoting planned urban growth.

The funding has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Finance under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment. The allocation recognises Uttarakhand’s timely implementation of prescribed financial reforms, reflecting the state’s commitment to fiscal discipline and efficient governance.

With this additional support, total financial assistance extended by the Centre to Uttarakhand in the financial year 2025–26 has reached Rs 18.06 billion. The funds will be deployed across key development initiatives, including the construction and upgrading of roads, bridges, urban infrastructure, public works and other essential facilities throughout the state.

The Rs 250 million earmarked for urban land reforms is expected to strengthen planned urban development, enhance transparency in land management and create a more investment-friendly environment. These reforms are also intended to ensure orderly urban expansion and improve civic amenities in growing urban centres.

The Centre’s decision to release additional funds is linked to Uttarakhand’s successful implementation of financial reforms mandated under the scheme. This performance-based assistance is designed to encourage states to strengthen fiscal management while accelerating capital expenditure that supports long-term economic growth.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for continued support. He stated that the additional financial assistance would play a crucial role in transforming infrastructure, boosting economic activity and advancing the vision of a developed Uttarakhand.
