Delhi’s New EV Policy to Boost Charging and R&D

The Delhi government’s upcoming electric vehicle policy is expected to place strong emphasis on expanding public charging infrastructure and scaling up research and development activities, officials said on Tuesday.

Under the proposed EV Policy 2.0, the government has been advised to significantly enhance funding for research and development to support a stronger and more resilient electric mobility ecosystem in the capital. The recommended allocation for R&D has been increased from Rs 50 million to Rs 1 billion, reflecting a sharper focus on innovation and technology development in the EV sector.

Strengthening public charging infrastructure is another major pillar of the revised policy. Officials said the proposal includes the development of 1,000 public charging stations, with financial support of Rs 1.5 million per station, aimed at improving accessibility and reducing range anxiety among electric vehicle users.

The updated policy is expected to play a key role in accelerating EV adoption in Delhi by addressing infrastructure gaps and encouraging innovation-led growth across the electric mobility value chain.
