Ecofirst Delivers Bharat Pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka

Ecofirst Services, a subsidiary of Tata Consulting Engineers, has successfully delivered the Bharat Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Commissioned by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) under the Ministry of Culture, and the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) under the Ministry of Commerce, the Pavilion reflects India’s cultural heritage, technological capabilities, and sustainable design leadership.
Located in the “Connecting Lives” zone of the Expo, the Pavilion embodies India’s vision of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” and was completed within a compressed timeline of 90 days, navigating multiple Japanese regulatory frameworks.
Ecofirst was responsible for the complete lifecycle of the Pavilion—conceptualisation, planning, design, curation, execution, operations, and visitor engagement. The structure received the Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Platinum Plaque for Sustainable Interiors, becoming the first Indian Pavilion and one of the few temporary Expo structures in Japan to attain this recognition.
Commending the achievement, Pradeep Singh Kharola, Chairman and Managing Director, ITPO, said, “The Bharat Pavilion has emerged as one of the most visited at Expo 2025 Osaka. This was made possible by Ecofirst’s excellence in design, execution, and professionalism.”
Dr Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA, remarked, “The Pavilion stands out for its creativity, material innovation, and smooth coordination among multiple stakeholders. It has earned recognition as the best in its X-box category.”
Amit Sharma, MD & CEO, Tata Consulting Engineers, noted, “Executing a project of this scale in a foreign environment within such tight timelines demonstrates our engineering strength and commitment to representing India on a global platform.”
Spanning 18,000 sq ft, the Pavilion’s design draws inspiration from the Padmapani Bodhisattva, represented as a blue lotus—a symbol of purity, wisdom, and harmony. The petal-shaped structure echoes the Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—‘The World is One Family’.
The Pavilion comprises several themed zones:
Innovation Bharat Zone: Showcasing India’s advances in digital transformation, space, clean energy, and smart urban solutions.
Heritage & ODOP Zones: Highlighting traditional crafts, regional textiles, and local entrepreneurship.
Cultural Courtyard & Oneness Lounge: Hosting live performances, yoga sessions, and interactive exhibits.
Bharat Bazaar & Family Zones: Offering Indian cuisine, folk art, and handicrafts.
State & Ministry Zones: Featuring regional development and governance models.
Built using modular, recyclable materials, the Pavilion integrates sustainable elements such as low-flow fixtures, high-efficiency HVAC systems, occupancy sensors, CO₂ monitors, and real-time energy tracking systems. The project also overcame logistical, compliance, and multilingual integration challenges through effective project management and global collaboration.
Chitranjan Kaushik, CEO of Ecofirst Services, stated, “The Pavilion is more than a cultural showcase; it reflects India’s journey as a leading global economy and a fusion of tradition with innovation.”
Expo 2025 Osaka, which runs until 13 October 2025, features participation from over 160 countries and nine international organisations. The Bharat Pavilion has already been ranked among the five most visited national pavilions, attracting widespread acclaim for its concept, execution, and immersive experience.
Through this project, Ecofirst Services and Tata Consulting Engineers have demonstrated India’s capability in global project delivery, sustainable design, and cultural storytelling.
