India Sells Over 1 Million EVs, Emerges as Fastest-Growing Market

India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing electric vehicle (EV) markets globally, with over 1 million EV units sold in 2024-25, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Auto Retail Conclave organised by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) via video message, the Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel highlighted the rapid transformation of India’s automobile sector. He noted the shift from internal combustion engines to clean mobility, and from serving domestic demand to pursuing global aspirations.
“In 2024-25, India sold more than one million electric vehicles, with electric two-wheelers growing 21 per cent and electric three-wheelers increasing 57 per cent. India is now among the fastest-growing electric vehicle markets in the world,” Kumaraswamy stated.
