Jayant Chaudhary Reviews Skill India International Centre in Guwahati

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary, visited the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, during his two-day tour of Assam. As part of the visit, the Minister reviewed the newly operationalised Skill India International Centre (SIIC) at the IIE campus, a flagship initiative focused on promoting international skill standards and expanding overseas employment opportunities, particularly for youth from the North Eastern Region.

Highlighting the government’s vision of creating a globally competitive and future-ready workforce, Jayant Chaudhary said that India’s growth trajectory will increasingly depend on the skills, adaptability and entrepreneurial confidence of its youth. He noted that initiatives at IIE and SIIC demonstrate how grassroots skilling, combined with global orientation, can unlock international opportunities for local talent. From foreign language training to entrepreneurship development, these programmes are equipping youth to compete and succeed in global markets.

The Skill India International Centre in Guwahati is equipped with language classrooms, an IT laboratory and a skill lab. Currently, two batches are undergoing Japanese language training aligned with JLPT N5 and JFT-equivalent standards. Future batches are planned for higher JLPT levels as well as English language training. Being located within the IIE campus, the Centre also offers access to hostel facilities for trainees.

During his visit, the Minister interacted with trainees enrolled in the Japanese language programme, engaging with them on their aspirations and preparedness for overseas employment, particularly in Japan. He encouraged them to combine language proficiency with cultural orientation and technical skills to build successful global careers.

Jayant Chaudhary also toured key facilities at IIE, including the Mountaineering Sports Arena, the Apparel Incubation Centre and the TRISSAM outlet, which showcases indigenous products and local entrepreneurship. He planted a Nahar sapling on the campus, symbolising sustainability and long-term institutional growth.

The Minister interacted with entrepreneurs and beneficiaries, including Ms. Junmoni Devi, a mushroom farmer from Morigaon, Assam, who has trained over 100 farmers and developed value-added products with IIE support. Interacting with stakeholders and state officials, he reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening skilling and entrepreneurship in the North East and nurturing youth as job creators rather than job seekers.

"Join industry leaders at RAHSTA Expo, India's premier platform for roads, highways and traffic infrastructure. Register now to explore innovations, network with experts and shape the future of mobility."
