Piyush Goyal Reviews India Export Roadmap To USD Two tn

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal chaired a high level review to assess India’s strategy to reach a United States dollar (USD) two tn export target by 2030-31. The plan foresees USD one tn each from merchandise exports and services exports. Officials set out a structured monitoring framework to track progress sector by sector across engineering goods, textiles, electronics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and services. The minister emphasised that delivery would rest on clearly defined responsibilities, measurable outcomes and strict timelines.

Each action point will be assigned to designated officers supported by the relevant ministries and monitored through a digital platform with real time reviews and automatic escalation of delays. Departments were asked to identify sectors where import dependence can be reduced alongside export growth, signalling a twin strategy of boosting overseas sales while strengthening domestic manufacturing. The review underlined the need to prioritise capacity building and to align incentives with production targets.

A key focus was the Export Promotion Mission aimed at helping micro, small and medium enterprises overcome barriers in finance, logistics and market access. The programme comprises two components, Niryat Protsahan for trade finance support and Niryat Disha for expanding market opportunities. Ten support measures have already been activated under the mission, including interest subvention, export factoring, e commerce credit support, inland transport aid, risk sharing mechanisms and certification support. Officials also reviewed a relief package for exporters affected by the West Asia crisis and directed efforts to ensure support reaches smaller and first time exporters.

The minister instructed officials to increase awareness through Export Promotion Councils, Commodity Boards and DGFT regional offices so that schemes reach smaller and first time exporters. The minister asked for a rolling three year calendar of trade fairs, buyer seller meetings and overseas delegations to help businesses plan outreach and participation. Strengthening Brand India was highlighted as essential to improve global visibility and attract buyers to Indian goods and services. The review concluded with a directive to monitor implementation closely and to report measurable progress periodically.
