Pralhad Joshi Launches Green Hydrogen Certification Portal

The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs launched the Green Hydrogen Certification Portal of India (GHCI) during a national workshop organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The portal will facilitate transparent certification and regulatory compliance under the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India and is intended to strengthen state policies, hubs and infrastructure for the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The minister noted that six states have notified dedicated green hydrogen policies, seven have integrated hydrogen into existing policy frameworks, and four are finalising theirs. He said financial incentives have been awarded to 15 companies to establish 3,000 megawatt (MW) per annum of indigenous electrolyser manufacturing capacity to reduce import dependence.

Contracts have been awarded for the supply of 30,000 metric tonnes per annum (t per annum) of green hydrogen to major refineries, and Rs 840 million (mn) has been sanctioned for pilot projects testing 100 per cent hydrogen injection in the steel sector. Nearly Rs 2.08 billion (bn) has been allocated to support 37 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and nine strategic refuelling stations, complemented by Rs 1.93 bn of investment across seven national testing facilities.

The minister highlighted an R and D roadmap of Rs 1.13 bn supporting 21 projects and the finalisation of standards for green ammonia and green methanol. He set out the mission target of five million metric tonnes (mn t) of green hydrogen production capacity supported by 125 gigawatt (GW) of dedicated renewable capacity, anticipated to catalyse investments exceeding Rs 8 trillion (tn), create 0.6 million (mn) jobs and reduce annual carbon emissions by 50 million tonnes (mn t). He announced Rs 1 bn for start-ups and approval of nine start-ups for Rs 220 mn of funding.

"Join industry leaders at RAHSTA Expo, India's premier platform for roads, highways and traffic infrastructure. Register now to explore innovations, network with experts and shape the future of mobility."
