Shillong Opens First Mall With Smart, Green Features

Shillong has achieved a major milestone in urban development with the completion of the Polo Commercial Complex—the city’s first shopping mall. Developed under the Smart Cities Mission, the modern facility was completed in December 2024, four years after its foundation stone was laid on 28 October 2020.

Constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 1 billion (inclusive of GST), the mall spans a 1.26-acre plot with a total built-up area of around 170,000 square feet. The development marks a significant leap forward in Shillong’s commercial infrastructure landscape.

The Polo Commercial Complex features 109 retail shops, ranging from 447 to 3,969 sq ft in size, along with eight office spaces between 8,050 and 8,830 sq ft. Enhancing its appeal, the facility includes a dedicated Gaming Zone and a spacious Food Court, together occupying 15,270 sq ft.
