Telangana Introduces Ethanol Based Mobile EV Charging Technology

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy said Telangana has taken a significant step towards green mobility with the introduction of an ethanol based mobile electric vehicle charging technology during the inauguration of KETO Motors Limited's first commercial electric bus in the nine-metre segment in Hyderabad. The minister noted that the launch formed part of an event at the IAS Officers Association Club in Begumpet. He framed the development as among the most important products of its kind globally.

KETO Motors introduced new equipment that enables electric vehicles to be charged using ethanol rather than conventional electricity, the minister said. He added that the mobile charging solution would promote green energy while creating value for farmers through increased demand for ethanol. The company had designed the unit to be deployable where temporary charging infrastructure is required.

The minister characterised the simultaneous unveiling of the electric bus and the ethanol powered mobile charging unit as a significant initiative for the state and urged wider adoption of electric mobility. He indicated that the move would help reduce dependence on petroleum imports, support environmental protection and improve public health. The minister appealed to citizens to embrace electric vehicles in pursuit of these objectives.

KETO Motors presented its first commercial bus in the nine-metre segment with pushback seats capable of accommodating 35 passengers and said the vehicle is intended for employee transportation by firms such as Microsoft, Google and Capgemini. The company reported that it signed three memoranda of understanding on the day of the inauguration. The event was attended by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation Vice Chairman and Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy. Company and government representatives outlined expectations that the technology could expand access to charging in areas lacking fixed infrastructure.
