Uttarakhand CM Dhami Unveils 18 Projects worth Rs 1.13 Bn

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 18 development projects worth Rs 1.13 billion in Uttarakhand’s Champawat district, aiming to enhance infrastructure, tourism, water supply, and connectivity.

The programme took place at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office in Tanakpur, Champawat.

Of the 18 projects, 13 were inaugurated with a combined value of Rs 470.86 million, while foundation stones were laid for five new initiatives totalling Rs 650.78 million.

These projects include significant works such as the construction of a multi-storey parking facility in Tanakpur, beautification of the Sipti Waterfall, establishment of a craft centre in Shyamlatal, and improvements to commuting infrastructure around the Purnagiri temple, among others.

Interacting with senior citizens and local dignitaries, CM Dhami underscored the importance of involving the elderly in the district’s development. He said their life experiences are crucial in building an ideal district.

According to him, senior citizens have “witnessed various phases of life and have the potential to provide solutions, which is inspiring, especially for the younger generation.” He further noted that the government’s objective is to ensure development schemes reach “every last village and person in the state.”

Emphasising the push towards digital governance, CM Dhami said most departments and welfare programmes have now been brought online. This transformation, he explained, has allowed people to “benefit from government services without visiting offices,” ensuring timely and effective service delivery.

Later, the Chief Minister took part in the “Tiranga Shaurya Yatra,” a rally organised to mark the success of Operation Sindoor and to show support for the Indian Army.

Starting from the CM camp office and concluding at Pilibhit Chungi, the yatra witnessed enthusiastic participation from thousands. CM Dhami said the success of Operation Sindoor “has instilled pride in every Indian.”

He added that Uttarakhand is known as a land of valour, with many families having members in the armed forces. “The message has been sent. India will no longer tolerate terrorism,” the chief minister stated.

No glass boxes!

India is moving away from the ‘glass box’ syndrome, all-glass façades that were widely used in commercial buildings in the last two decades but came at a significant environmental cost given the country’s predominantly hot and humid climate. Poor thermal performance, excessive heat gain and dependency on mechanical cooling systems made buildings with glass façades energy guzzlers and significantly increased their carbon footprint. That said, it’s important to be aware that “glass is not the enemy,” points out Heena Bhargava, Architect, Architecture Discipline. “How it ..

Why do pavements fail?

India’s highways continue to expand at a healthy pace. But conversations on the surface quality of highways are growing louder because major deficiencies and black spots continue to be identified, and they are cause for concern.“Road surface roughness causes vehicle vibrations that, in turn, can affect the performance of drivers,” explains Dr V K Gahlot, Road Safety Auditor, Centre for Research and Sustainable Development (CfRSD). “Continuous exposure may induce fatigue, a contributory factor to road accidents. Road surface roughness also affects the vehicle operating cost...
