Zaheerabad Smart City To Boost Industry And Employment

Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City would provide a fresh boost to the state's industrial sector and generate direct and indirect employment for 200,000 people once fully operational. He said the project aims to attract investments worth approximately Rs 150 billion (bn) and is being developed across 3,245 acres. The announcement formed part of a wider discussion on industrial corridors and investment facilitation.

Sridhar Babu participated virtually from the Secretariat in a video conference organised in New Delhi by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (the trust). Chief Ministers and Industries Ministers from various states took part in the event. He outlined timelines and financing arrangements for the Zaheerabad development.

He indicated that development works for the Zaheerabad Smart City would be completed by March 2028 and stated that projects executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model would be finished within the stipulated timeframe. The minister said the State Government holds a 51 per cent stake in the smart city in the form of land while the Centre is providing funds for development activities. Plans are being formulated to create the necessary infrastructure to attract industrial enterprises.

Sridhar Babu requested Union Minister Piyush Goyal to allocate four of the 100 plug-and-play industrial parks announced by the Centre under the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA) to Telangana. He emphasised that the smart city would stimulate supply chain and ancillary opportunities in the region and that timely completion and infrastructure provisioning are central to realising investment and employment targets.
