Cheaper power from Barh plant

Bihar is likely to get cheaper power from NTPC's Barh super thermal power plant. An MoU has been signed between NTPC and the Central Coalfields (CCL) for regular supply of adequate amount of coal from Banaghat in Jharkhand. The Centre recently also fixed a standard rate of coal for coal-based power plants. With the reduced rate of coal, power tariff will also reduce to Rs 3.50 from the current rate of Rs 5.10 per unit. Normally, power in the open market is available at around Rs 4 per unit.
