Chitrakoot Airport proposal passed by Uttar Pradesh Government

The Uttar Pradesh Government has reportedly passed a proposal for expanding the air strip and constructing an airport terminal in Chitrakoot. The decision has come after initiating the construction of a full-fledged airport in Ayodhya.

Currently, the Department of Civil Aviation has proposed acquisition of one hectare for the expansion of air strip and construction of terminal building in Chitrakoot under the Regional Connectivity scheme. The land will be reportedly sought from the Forest Department. However, the government has released Rs 1 million for initiating the project.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has reportedly prepared a master plan for the project and is expected to execute the project. Meanwhile, the district administration has been asked to adhere to the layout plan and accordingly intimate the state government about the progress of the project.

Also, the proposed airstrip expansion and terminal construction in Chitrakoot is mostly likely to be named as Ramayan Mela, while the airport in Ayodhya is proposed to be in named after Lord Ram. The state government is reportedly in plans to organise Ramayan Mela as an inter-state and inter-district event which will be managed by the district magistrate as a nodal officer.
