Maharashtra Plans Third Airport in MMR Near Palghar

The Maharashtra government has initiated a pre-feasibility study for a greenfield airport in Vadhavan, Palghar district, aiming to develop the third airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). This project is part of a broader plan to create a new city with major infrastructure around the proposed airport.

The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) began the study on Feb 20, marking the first step toward the development of the airport near one of India’s largest upcoming ports on the west coast. If approved, this airport will join the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai and the under-construction Navi Mumbai airport, set to be inaugurated in April.
