Ujjain Airport To Be Built In Two Phases

The proposed airport at Ujjain will be developed in two phases, with the Madhya Pradesh government and Airports Authority of India (AAI) expected to sign a short agreement within the next two weeks to commence construction.
In the first phase, a 2,600-metre runway will be built to accommodate 72-seater regional aircraft. This will include a passenger terminal and night landing facilities, with completion targeted before the Simhastha festival to cater to the surge in visitors.
The second phase will extend the runway to 4,000 metres, enabling larger commercial aircraft operations and potential international connectivity, similar to Indore and Bhopal airports.
Land acquisition is a key focus, with 100 acres of government land already identified. A further 150 acres of private land will be acquired, coordinated by the Ujjain Collector, to meet the total 250-acre requirement.
Authorities said the project will significantly boost regional connectivity, reduce reliance on road travel, and promote tourism centred on the Mahakal temple precinct. The airport will also generate employment opportunities. Once completed, Ujjain will become the ninth airport in Madhya Pradesh, enhancing the state’s aviation network.
