Mumbai’s Ghatkopar-Mankhurd flyover may be operational by mid-August

After three years of delay, the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd link road flyover seems to be thrown open to public use by the middle of August.

Work on this crucial flyover is 97% completed, which helps easy commutation between the Eastern Express Highway and Navi Mumbai, BMC officer said.

Officials from the bridges department of BMC said that the overall project work is almost over, and minor works, including asphalting and painting of some stretched remains. The chief engineer of the bridges department, Satish Thosar, said that the work is likely to be completed by mid-August.

The construction work of the 2.1 km long flyover project began in 2016, and the deadline for the project was January 2019.

In February 2020, the proposal for cost escalation and the deadline extended for the project was cleared by the Standing Committee of BMC. The project cost has increased to Rs 713 crore from its initial price of Rs 576 crore. A fine of Rs 40 lakh has been imposed by BMC on the contractor for the delay.

The officials said that the delay occurred due to the construction of an extra arm for the Deonar dumping ground.
