Ahmedabad has just 293 signals for 2,600 km of roads

A startling lack of traffic lights plagues this thriving metropolis, which has a vast road network covering more than 2,634km. A startling number of crossroads are left to travellers' discretion because to the city's sparse 293 traffic lights.

Even more puzzling is the fact that Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) seems to have forgotten how many of these intersections actually need traffic lights, despite the fact that thorough road surveys have been a distant memory for the past two decades.

Approximately 5% of the 293 traffic lights now in use are startlingly malfunctioning, which only compounds the problem.

Residents must now navigate busy intersections without traffic signals, especially in places like Maktampura, Sarkhej, Vejalpur, Ghatlodia, and Chandkheda. These regions were added to the AMC's authority after 2007. These districts, which are currently among the busiest in the city, need crucial traffic infrastructure.

Five traffic signals have recently been installed at important intersections including the Naranpura T point, Godrej Garden City junction, Jagatpur flyover crossroads, Bibi Talav junction in Vatva and Baghban crossroads in Shilaj in order to alleviate this shortfall.
