Centre approves Rs 7,000 crore in road projects for the state

Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has approved a Rs 7000 crore road project for the coastal state on Monday, just a month before the Goa Assembly elections.

The approval came almost a month after Gadkari approved a new road project for the State under MoRTH worth Rs 1,250 crore.

Gadkari was in Goa for a day to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a Rs 3,840 crore national highway project.

Later in the day, the Minister told reporters that he had approved projects worth Rs 7,000 crore for various road infrastructure projects across the state.

Gadkari informed that the State government had proposed 13 new projects worth Rs 809 crore in its annual plan 2021-22, for which approval had been granted.

Additionally, two projects related to NH 17B and NH66 have been sanctioned for Rs 305 crore, according to Gadkari, who also informed that the road stretch from MES junction in Dabolim to Verna traffic signal has been sanctioned for Rs 350-400 crore.

Gadkari approved the redesign of the Bambolim subway near Goa Medical College to make it more pedestrian-friendly and accessible to people with disabilities. Gadkari said that the project will include lifts for pedestrians and people with disabilities.

Since 2014, the central government has invested Rs 22,000 crore in road development in Goa, according to the minister.

In November, a Union Minister approved the construction of a road connecting Navelim and Cuncolim at Rs 270 crore. Also, at Rs 200 crore, an 8 km road from Canacona's outer bypass road to Polem was built. The road from the Sanjivani sugar factory in Dharbandora to Khandepar, costing Rs 200 crore, and a four-lane road from Ponda to Bhoma, costing Rs 575 crore.

Gadkari expressed confidence in his party's ability to win a landslide victory in the upcoming election under the leadership of Dr Pramod Sawant.
